BIO
Per Lamdahl J. is an artist, composer and pianist whose practice explores colour, material, light and the balance between structure and freedom.
Working across watercolour, oil and acrylic-painting and mixed-media works, he is interested in the physical behaviour of materials and in the subtle transformations that occur when they meet. His works often begin within a simple, carefully defined framework, which provides a point of departure without determining the outcome. What interests him is the moment when a work begins to move beyond that structure—when material, gesture or colour introduces something unexpected.
His painting and musical composition are closely connected, not through the use of one medium to illustrate the other, but through a shared interest in repetition, subtle variation, rhythm and sustained attention. Each medium has its own possibilities and its own intelligence.
Per Lamdahl J. trained as a pianist at the Royal Danish Academy of Music in Copenhagen, before studying political science and urban planning. He now lives and works between Lyon, Blesle in France and Denmark.
